What is a Scalp Massager?

A scalp massager is a device intended to help an individual massage his or her scalp, which can be a good way to relieve stress. As the scalp is massaged, pressure is applied on nerve endings that are associated with acupressure points, and this pressure on the nerve endings releases endorphins that help relieve stress and increase pleasure. These devices might require manual manipulation, or they can be automated and powered electrically. Regardless of their power source, they can provide relief and pleasure to their users.

One of the main benefits of using a scalp massager is that it increases blood circulation. This increase of blood flow can improve hair follicle growth, leading to more or newer hair. In fact, massagers can be used by men and women who want to deter or reduce hair loss, though the success of such applications can vary considerably between individuals.

If an individual suffers from routine stress or the headaches associated with stress, a scalp massager might provide relief. It can stimulate areas on the head that may help to undo tension. The user might feel immediate relief after applying the massager and letting it reduce stress.

Electric devices can have many more features than those that are manually manipulated. They can look like round helmets that need to be placed over and around the head. Internal speakers can provide music or sounds, and a temperature controller can be located on the device so that the user can change the degree of heat he or she experiences while undergoing a massage. The inside of the device can contain balls made out of silicon or ceramic, which help to stimulate acupressure points on the scalp. Some might even come equipped with remotes for easier control.

Scalp massagers also can come bundled with other objects. For example, items designed to wash or comb hair also can function as massagers. These items might be incapable of being manipulated as efficiently as devices designed specifically to massage scalps, however.

Anyone looking to experience some of the benefits of a scalp massager without investing in one needs only to look to his or her fingers. Using the fingertips can be just as effective at stimulating the scalp as a specific massaging device is. An individual who opts to use his or her fingers should be aware that using the fingernails to massage the scalp could cause health problems, however.

@letshearit - If you are worried about thinning hair a scalp massager can really promote growth. This isn't an instant fix though, but I have found that my own hair has come back in thicker and healthier with regular use of the massager.

For those who aren't comfortable using their fingers for a scalp massage, or just want the convenience of a tool, you can buy scalp massagers for under $10 dollars online and have it shipped to your home.

I think it is a good idea to just try it on your own as good scalp massage is pretty easy to learn. If you do a search online you can find some simple instructions.

Has anyone had any success using a scalp massager to increase hair growth?

I have been reading a lot about the benefits of scalp massage and it seems like a safe and natural way to help out with thinning hair. I have tried some other products, but I find that the special shampoos and rinses don't really work, plus they generally smell terrible.

I don't want to have to get something like hair transplants later on, so I am hoping that scalp massage may be a simple way to encourage my hair to grow in thicker and healthier.

Also, does anyone know the average cost of an at home scalp massager?

@Latte31 - I will have to try that. I wanted to add that while I have never tried any of these head massagers, I have tried foot massagers and it does make a difference. When I am out with the kids on a day at the amusement park, I am so tired when I get home which is why I bought one.

I really need my foot massager because my feet are in pain when I get home. What I love about the foot massager is that it applies heated water in a circular motion that really allows me to relax and take the pain away. It is amazing how good I feel afterwards. I highly recommend buying one. Mine was only about thirty dollars.

@Ivan83- I have to say that the only time I have ever gotten a scalp massage was when I go get my hair cut. I absolutely loved it. The stylist’s assistant usually shampoos my hair, but she also gives me the best massage while I am sitting there. It relaxes me so much that I almost fell asleep. There is definitely an art to this.

She suggested that I get a tingler scalp massager because it is only cost a few dollars, but it is supposed offer amazing results. It is a wire scalp massager that you can leave in your purse. She told me that it not only relieves tight muscles due to stress, but it also is supposed to increase the circulation of the blood while lowering my overall stress levels.

I have seen 2 different kinds of scalp massagers. On provides a kind of general pressure, kind of like what you would get from the palm of a hand. The other is more of a wire scalp massager that sort of scratches the head and seems to set off lots of little fireworks as it travel across your scalp.

My parents used to have one of the wire kind and I feel like I spent yours just scratching around on my scalp. The feeling was so exciting and relaxing at the same time. I have seen these for sale occasionally but not very often. Its a shame. I always felt so relaxed after I used one. A lot of people might benefit from a good head scratching

A good scalp massage is sooo relaxing. I first had one done by a masseuse that I visited about 10 years ago. The whole massage was great but when he started working on my scalp I thought that I was in a waking dream.

After that I got a book from the library and insisted that my husband learn how to give scalp massages. He is now a real pro at it and I always turn to him when I am feeling stressed or worn out.

Anyone who has not tried one should jump on the bandwagon. Its like the fingers go all the way down into your brain. I'm realizing that the feeling is pretty indescribable.
