What is Calcarea Carbonica?

Calcarea carbonica is a preparation used in homeopathy. It's made from an inner lining in shells that have been prepared in a process known as trituration, which involves grinding something into a very fine powder for the purpose of purifying it. The remedy is provided in small pills that are placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve slowly.

In homeopathy, compounds introduced to the body for the purpose of effecting medical treatment are known as “remedies,” and this is one of the most commonly used remedies. This remedy is available from practitioners of homeopathy, and also directly through stores that stock homeopathic treatments.

Homeopathy is a form of alternative medical practice based on the premise that “like cures like.” Accordingly, when a patient arrives at a homeopath's office for treatment, he or she will conduct a detailed interview to learn about the patient's general physical condition and the specific symptoms, and prescribe a remedy that is linked with the emergence of such conditions. The remedy, however, is greatly diluted, so that only small amounts are introduced into the body.

Calcarea carbonica is what is known as an antipsoric, meaning that it acts against a particular “miasm” or mechanism of disease known as psora. The theory of miasms was proposed by Samuel Hahnemann, the “father of homeopathy,” and it has been greatly debated by members of the conventional medical community. Hahnemann believed that many conditions were traceable to psora, making this remedy, also known as calc or calc carb, a critical medication in the cabinet of any homeopathic practitioner.

This drug is usually used to treat conditions that involve complaints of cold, such as patients who experience a worsening of symptoms in cold weather, or experience cold sensations. Candidates may also be tired and sluggish, with swollen lymph nodes and a lethargic attitude. Some treatments for which Calcarea carbonica is prescribed can include teething, bronchitis, asthma, high blood pressure, ulcers, gallstones, and infections. This remedy can also be used in conjunction with other remedies to treat specific conditions.

While people can medicate themselves with homeopathic remedies, it is better to attend a session with a practitioner of homeopathy who can conduct a detailed patient interview and determine the best remedy to use. Patients may opt to meet with a practitioner of complementary medicine, a professional who integrates both traditional and alternative medicine into a medical practice for the purpose of approaching patients and conditions from a variety of perspectives.

Have you ever tried homeopathy? You don't need to know why and how. As long as it works, that's all that matters, which is much more than can be said for much allopathic medicine.

@Post 4: Calcarea Carbonica is an impure form of CaCO3; it's not even close to being the same grade. People charge homeopathic practitioners with being deceptive, when in fact they're doing the opposite -- and probably trying to avoid a lawsuit.

Funny how pseudo homeopaths have to come up with Calcarea carbonica, also known as Calcium Carbonate by real scientists and almost every person with half an ounce of common sense. It's like they are trying to make it more confusing than homeopathy really has to be. Don't alter a name to make something sound new and different so that you can attribute new applications.

My hands and feet are always freezing and I hate being in cold weather. I love summer and I love being in the sun. I like the beach too but after I swim, I have a lot of aches around my ankles, kind of like arthritis. I also sweat a lot. Do I need to take calc carb?

I have two distant relatives who are using calcarea carbonica for hernia treatment. I think it's one of the most common homeopathic medicines for hernia. They buy it in a tablet or liquid form from homeopathy stores.

Of course, it's not a treatment in itself. One relative has had surgery for abdominal hernia and is taking calcarea carbonia in addition to trying to lose weight. He is also making sure not to move in a way that will strain his muscles. My other relative has hernia as well and is trying to avoid surgery, so she is also using this homeopathic remedy as an addition to her treatment.

The interesting thing about homeopathy is that ailments and diseases are described both in physical and psychological terms. I was on a homeopathy forum and wanted to find out what kind of remedy I needed. I had to answer a list of questions which asked not only about my physical problems, pains and abnormalities, but also my emotional tendencies.

If you look at the description for people who need calcarea carbonica for example, it literally describes them to be fat, fair and also fearful. I'm not sure how homeopathy can determine the psychological aspect of illnesses, but it's definitely a unique way of treatment.

I actually like this connection between the body and emotions. Everyone knows that psychology plays a big part in illnesses. Cancer patients who are optimistic and cheerful for example, tend to overcome cancer more quickly. Other health problems like asthma are said to be 80% psychological even though it appears to be physical. So when you take calc. carb., you are not just treating arthritis or chest pains, you are also treating anxiety and laziness. I like that.
